A soft case pepper spray has to open the snap, take it out, unlock the pepper spray and spray. A hard case just needs to be unlocked and sprayed.

We have a really nice set made by sabre Red which is a hard case pepper spray that comes with a practice water canister as well as a hard case pepper spray. This is a favorite of mine as the practice water canister allows you to practice using your pepper spray without emptying the real pepper spray so it is still full when you need it most.
